Role: Art Direction & Design

Objective: The objective of the “What’s in Your Fridge?” app concept project was to create a mobile application that allows users to easily track the items in their fridge and receive personalized recipe recommendations based on the ingredients they already have on hand. The primary goal was to encourage users to reduce food waste by utilizing ingredients they already own to prepare meals.
Approach:
- Conceptualization and Ideation:
- Conducted research on food waste and consumer behavior to identify pain points and opportunities for innovation.
- Brainstormed ideas and concepts for the app’s features and functionality, focusing on simplicity, usability, and sustainability.
- User Experience Design:
- Designed wireframes and user flows to map out the app’s navigation and interaction patterns, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
- Created low-fidelity prototypes using InVision to test and iterate on key features and design elements.
- Visual Design:
- Developed a clean and visually appealing interface design that aligns with the app’s purpose and target audience.
- Utilized a minimalist design approach with vibrant colors and intuitive icons to enhance usability and engagement.
- Feature Development Ideas:
- Potential features such as barcode scanning, manual item entry, and expiration date tracking to streamline the process of adding items to the user’s fridge inventory.
- Recipe recommendation engine that analyzes the user’s fridge inventory and suggests recipes that can be made using those ingredients.
Results:
- Streamlined Food Management: The “What’s in Your Fridge?” app concept provides users with a convenient way to track the items in their fridge and make informed decisions about meal planning and preparation.
- Reduced Food Waste: By suggesting recipes based on the ingredients users already have on hand, the app encourages users to utilize their existing food inventory, leading to reduced food waste and more sustainable consumption habits.
Conclusion: The “What’s in Your Fridge?” app concept project demonstrates my ability to conceptualize and design innovative solutions that address real-world challenges, such as food waste. By combining user-centric design principles with sustainable practices, I created a mobile app concept design that not only enhances the user experience but also promotes environmental stewardship and conscious consumption.
